which is better?

Unispear has a massive selection of drills both corded and cordless. If you take a quick look at our selection of draper drills you will see that the cordless drills are now able to boast most of the same features as there corded counterparts.

So how do you choose?

A cordless drill such as the Draper 41407 DRAPER EXPERT 14.4V ELECTRONIC CORDLESS COMBINATION HAMMER DRILL has much the same speed and power as many of our comparable corded drills

Advantages

Safer – no cord means no chance of tripping or accidental snagging

More convenient – Can take the drill anywhere with little trouble be it in the house or in the garden

No power No problem – Can work even if you have had to cut the power

Of course the are a few disadvantages

Run time – your working time is limited to the life of the battery which will be dependent upon the work undertaken. Many Draper Cordless Drills come with an extra battery to help alleviate this problem.

A corded drill such as the Draper 45808 DRAPER EXPERT 1050W 110V HAMMER DRILL may not be as convenient but does have a few advantages over cordless drills

Advantages

Unlimited runtime – a corded drill can run as long as needed provided you do not allow it to overheat.

Easy to maintain – the most maintenance a corded drill will probably need in its life time are replacement motor brushes where as a cordless drill will need its battery’s replacing every few years

Cost – A corded drill is usually cheaper than its cordless counterpart

Disadvantages

Power – Requires mains power to work which may be difficult if working in the shed or in locations not near a plug socket.

Trailing cord – the power cord is clumsy and may get in the way as working.

Which is best that is dependent on circumstances if you need flexibility then a cordless drill may be more suitable where as if you need staying power then a corded drill may be a better choice.

features

Two speed gearbox

Variable speed control

24 position torque control

Reversing facility

13mm keyless chuck

Adjustable side handle

Soft grip handle and trigger

Screwdriver bit storage compartment

Supplied complete with: double-ended screwdriver bit, 6 x screwdriver bits, 6 x HSS drill bits, adaptor, carrying case, one 24V (1.7Ah) & one 24V (1.2Ah) battery pack and 230V AC charger (1 hour approx.). Display packed.

Review

This drill is a good quality multifunctional feature packed domestic drill kit with the facility to act as a screwdriver in addition to its functions as a drill. The kit comes with a selection of screwdriver bits to help facilitate this function.

Performance

The drill its self is a very good piece of kit and is able to make light work of most ‘everyday’ type tasks such as drilling plasterboard and domestic interior walls, wood and light metals like sheet metal or aluminium. This type of DIY task is what the Draper 76214 24V Cordless Combi Hammer Drill was made for and it is able to get through this sort of job quite quickly.

It will struggle with heavier masonry depending on the thickness and composition of the material that is being drilled. While it should get through eventually most of the time it will take much longer to get through this type of material. If you are looking for a drill to do heavy or frequent masonry drilling then this drill may not be the most suitable but as a basic ‘around the house’ drill for home improvement/maintenance it is an excellent well built sturdy drill.

As this drill is a cordless drill it is an excellent choice for DIY/home improvement projects outside the home such as putting up maintaining garden sheds and other garden features like decking.

As it is supplied with two batteries you can easily keep going until the job is done as while you are using one battery the second can be charging allowing you to simply swap around as one battery runs out. The quick charge time of only an hour means that this should be a relatively painless process with no waiting most of the time.

Screwdriver Function

The screwdriver facility on the Draper 76214 24V Cordless Combi Hammer Drill is an excellent bonus to this drill allowing you to cut down the amount of tools you need to carry around with you. The screwdriver facility is a welcome one when putting up shelves and other furniture as it means that you can put items together much more securely than you could by hand.

Accessories

As for the accessories that come with the drill. The bits that come with this drill are great for most everyday uses and the screwdriver heads as well are ok though for some uses it might be necessary to get a more complete set as while the drill bits and screwdriver heads are of good quality the selection is a little limited most people should be able to get away with the bits supplied. The carry case is a great bonus to this kit it is a tough hard plastic case which will keep the drill safe from most jolts and bumps and is great for helping keep all of the kit together and safe from accidental damage while not in use.

conclusion

All in all the Draper 76214 Cordless Drill is very good and very sturdy cordless drill and is excellent for around the house everyday domestic use
As stated earlier this drill is intended for domestic use only while it could in theory be used in a professional setting it may not quite have the punch needed by those working in a trades persons environment.

Infinite Prime Security Alarms now available at unispear

Security is fast becoming a concern for many as such unispear has decided to introduce a new range of security alarms to the store allowing our customers to have peace of mind when they leave there own home.

As such unispear now supply’s the infinite prime alarm system an advanced and highly extensible home security system manufactured by ESP a well respected electronics company.

The infinite prime security system is a wireless home security system that is able to provide full home security rather than just acting as a simple burglar alarm. The infinite prime security alarm is quick and easy to set up with minimum disruption to the installation location. This is thanks to its wireless set up each sensor or attachment connects to the system via a wireless network avoiding the wiring problems with other alarm systems. This also makes they system very easy to expand as most additional sensors and components can be easily added to the network.

In addition to adding new sensors to expand the range of the infinite prime alarm system the system can also take on other components to help expand the functionality of the infinite prime alarm system such as adding smoke alarms, carbon monoxide and other gas detectors to the system. In this way it can become a full home security system rather than just a burglar alarm.

The infinite prime security system is able to alert you to problems within your home via phone should the alarm trigger and you are away and is compatible with many private alarm monitoring services.

Right now unispear has the basic alarm system in store however over the next few weeks we will be adding further components to the store allowing the infinite prime system to be further expanded allowing it to perform home automation amongst other functions

Infinite Prime alarms can be found in our new security alarms section
